The eyes of a child tell you in a thousand words the story of a life which perhaps did not begin so long ago but has witnessed the depths and strains, the pulls and pains that makes one wonder why these young lives had to grow up before their time.

Many children of the Third World are born to a life with perpetual plight, dishonor and a humiliating deprivation that would put many of us to shame who are privileged to afford life’s necessities, comforts and luxuries, and are still hankering for more.

It was not their choice to be born to parents who never planned them, or even rejoiced at their birth- their arrival was pure accidental! Wiping the sweat from his brows, the first of the father’s worries is how he would manage morsel to feed an additional member now.

Innocence and childhood are long lost when the child grows up every day to watch his parents suffer in abject poverty. He is bemused at the stark contrast in their standard of living and that of the boy he sees riding to school in his new uniform everyday. “School”, “Books”, “Play”,” Friends” are alien to him. He never learns of them unless he is fortunate to have a rich patron to take him under his care and protection – a fantasy that the child lives most of the times!

These children become the sole bread earners in their family as early as 10 or 12, trying to make both ends meet and supplementing their meager income. In their quest for work, they repeatedly get exploited in the hands of their employers, both physically and sexually, totally eroding the child in them. But writhing hunger and a desperation to eradicate the family’s misery drives that little child of 10 to push his limits.

Malnourishment reduces that little body to skin and bones, with no flesh. Burning hunger drives these little children to scavenge from the street garbage and feast on the food remnants, if they are lucky to find some for the day. This leaves them susceptible to poverty diseases and premature death, sometimes with the family mourning loss of their sole earning member. The candle that flickered all along, and is finally blown out!

These children are denied the basic human right to honorable living. Collectively, we all can make a significant difference to each one of these precious lives in our own little ways – and this we can do by purchasing some of the beautiful showcased wrist products of Save The World Shop, the proceeds of which go to charity and in supporting such noble causes as rehabilitating these young lives. That’s all it takes to “being human”.
